Hey everybody,
I did a whole bunch of stuff for magazines that we couldn't put up on the site until the magazines came out. Now that the magazines are out here you go. Some of this may be duplicated on the site but just in case I put it all together. I will also get out the draft I did for these magazines with analysis in a few days.
Kevin Kolb - Kolb will be a top 10 QB this year and very well could be a top 5 guy. He started two games last year and threw for 718 yards and 4 TD's. Remember, 4 years ago this guy was a second-round pick that threw for 3,809 yards and 30 TD's his senior year at Houston, with only 4 picks! The Eagles used a 2nd round pick on him and have given him three years to develop behind a very effective QB. He has a young, developing arsenal around him with DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek and LeSean McCoy, plus, they are going to a more traditional West Coast offense, just like he played in at Houston. We wouldn't be shocked if he throws for close to 4,000 yards and 30 TD's, or more and he is the guy we are targeting with our “Wait on Your QB” strategy.
Mike Wallace - Despite Ben Roethlisberger's six-game suspension which should slow Wallace's production somewhat in the first third of the season, the second-year receiver from the University of Mississippi is a good bet to avoid the sophomore receiver slump. He had a standout rookie season (39 catches for 756 yards and six touchdowns) as the Steelers' downfield threat, but we are even higher on him primarily due to the forced departure of Pro Bowl receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets, after one too many off-field incidents. While character concerns were the main reason Santonio Holmes was shoved out of Steel Town, the emergence of Wallace last season played just as important a role. Ben Roethlisberger's suspension will cause most owners to shy away from anything Pittsburgh, so Wallace should be available late in most Fantasy drafts. Grab him and stash him on your bench. When Roethlisberger returns, Wallace's stock will soar. As the presumed No.2 opposite of possession receiver Hines Ward, Wallace should move into the 60+catches, 1,100 yards and 8-10 touchdowns neighborhood.
Robert Meachem
– After not playing at all in his first year, Meachem had a breakout year in his 3rd season with 45 catches for 722 yards and 9 TD's, giving him 12 TD's in his first two years of actually playing. I would even make the argument that you can throw out the 1st year and say Meachem is heading into his 3rd full season, typically when WR's have their breakout years. There are a few negatives here, for the former first round pick, the biggest being that Meachem just had surgery on his toe but he should be ready for camp. The Saints also have a lot of playmakers and spread the ball around quite a bit. Still, I love Meachem's size and the fact that he has a nose for the end zone. I think he will emerge as the Saints number 2 WR with the potential for the 5 game flash he showed where he scored 6 TD's, culminating with an 8 catch 142 yard game against the Redskins last year, to be more of the norm. I will definitely be looking to add him in the middle rounds of this year's drafts.
Sleepers (AFC East)
Shonne Greene – Greene was not forced into a lead role in his rookie season as Thomas Jones was still playing at a Pro Bowl level. He did get his chances in the regular season however with a 19 carry game that he went for 144 yards and 2 TDs, and a 16 carry game that he finished with 95 yards. He ended the regular season with a 5.0 yard per carry average, but it's what he did in the post season that leads us to believe he's ready to carry the load for the emerging Jets, as well as your Fantasy team. He took over as the lead back in round one and carried 21 times for 135 yards and a TD (6.4 ypc), then proved that wasn't a fluke with a 128 yd 1 TD (5.6 ypc) effort in the Divisional Round. The Jets released Thomas Jones in the offseason, and traded Leon Washington to the Seahawks so the stage is set for the 2nd year runner to make a name for himself. They brought in LT to help in the passing game and give the kid a breather, but he's the guy and worthy of a late 1st, early 2nd round pick in our eyes.
Chad Henne, QB MIA – Chad Henne was thrust into the starting lineup when Chad Pennington went down in week 3 last year. The second year QB performed admirably considering the situation. What I really liked though, was how he performed down the stretch. In his last 5 games he only threw 5 TD's but he threw for 1366 yards. The young QB has poise and he doesn't rattle easily, which means nothing in Fantasy Football but what he also has is a shiny new WR named Brandon Marshall. Marshall is a huge upgrade to an average at best WR corps. The schedule for the Dolphins is brutal this year but all that means to me is that Henne will be leading the Dolphins from behind with the potential to have 3500 yards and 25 TD's. I will be looking to add him as a potential back up and see where he goes from there.
Bust
Larry Fitzgerald – The fact that Fitzgerald is going in the first round of early mock draft is mind boggling to me. I am not saying that he is not a freak of nature, because he is, but he can't throw the ball to himself. Matt Leinart is much bigger in name than he is an actual football player. In his career he has thrown 14 TD's versus 20 interceptions with a 57% completion percentage. In 2007 he started the first four games and threw for 547 yards and 2 TD's. In those four games Fitzgerald had 320 yards and 0 TD's. That's not exactly terrible, unless he is your first round pick. I am not sold on Leinart and I also think the loss of Anquan Boldin will takes its toll. Fitzgerald will be productive but he will not give you the production of a first round pick.
Ryan Mathews - Norv Turner is already saying Mathews will get a heavy workload, envisioning somewhere around 250 carries and 40 catches. That may not sound like a lot, but 250 carries would have been in the Top 10 last season. With running backs a commodity in Fantasy Football, Mathews could slip to the 3rd round, which is excellent value as your 2nd or 3rd RB. Every season at least 1 rookie RB explodes onto the scene and becomes a 1st rounder the next year. All signs point to Mathews as the guy as he is in the perfect situation to excel.
Fantasy Surprise – Steve Slaton
Fantasy Flop – Matt Leinart
First-Round Bust – Larry Fitzgerald
Top Fantasy Rookie –Ryan Mathews

Stay-Away Player – Vincent Jackson
Fantasy MVP – Chris Johnson
Fantasy Surprise – Shonne Greene
Fading Superstar – Terrell Owens
Breakout QB – Joe Flacco
Breakout RB – Felix Jones
Breakout WR – Hakeem Nicks
Breakout TE – Jermichael Finley
Breakout PK - Who cares
Q - Is it more important to you to have 2 top RBs, or 2 top WRs? Explain your reasoning.
A - If you get 1 point per reception, we'd be more inclined to get the 2 WRs because they can be more consistent than runners ranked 15+. RBs also tend to get injured more than WRs. Without PPR, I'd prefer 2 top RBs.
Q - Who is the most overrated RB?
A - Pierre Thomas, especially in non PPR leagues. The Saints spread it around too much so he will have some big games and more mediocre games.
Q - Who is the most underrated RB?
A - Ryan Grant gets no respect, 1450 total yards and 11 TDs last year and 1300 total yards and 5 TDs the year before.
Q - Which rookie RB will have the best career?
A - Ryan Matthews will be the feature back in one of the most potent offenses in the league for years to come.
Q - Which 2009 disappointment will turn things around this season?
A - Calvin Johnson has too much talent and now has some help with a developing QB and some additional weapons. We see him returning to Stud WR status.
Q - Which handcuff running back -- I'm looking for a clear backup here -- are you most likely to draft this season? Why?
A - Donald Brown was a first round draft choice last year but injuries slowed him up a bit, he will play behind Addai and could really excel in the zone run scheme.
