Training Camp/Pre-Season Injury Report August 22-27

The following is a rundown of the week's injuries in the NFL.

QB Jimmy Clausen, Carolina Panthers – The rookie returned to practice Tuesday, but his toe won't be fully healed until after the season.

QB Josh Freeman, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Freeman sustained a fractured right thumb, and is uncertain for Week 1.

QB Eli Manning, New York Giants – Manning returned to practice with his helmet on after sustaining a laceration on his forehead during preseason battle with the Jets. He doesn't need any additional padding on his cut, and will see action in the next game.

QB Donovan McNabb, Washington Redskins – McNabb has shed his walking boot and feels that he is improving in his recovery from an ankle injury. He has good odds of being ready to go for Week 1 versus division rival Dallas.

QB Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos – The rookie has returned to practice after sustaining an injury to his ribs.

RB Joseph Addai, Indianapolis Colts – The injury-prone back suffered a concussion during Thursday's preseason game versus Green Bay.

RB Ronnie Brown, Miami Dolphins – The injury-prone running back stated that he is fully recovered from Lisfranc surgery. He added that he feels really good and is excited about the start of the season.

RB Correll Buckhalter, Denver Broncos – Buckhalter returned to practice Tuesday after dealing with a back ailment.

RB Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs – Charles is being limited in the No. 2 role at running back right now while coming off offseason shoulder surgery.

RB Jonathan Dwyer, Pittsburgh Steelers – The rookie has returned to practice after missing a week with a shoulder injury. He has missed time with a hamstring injury too.

RB Montario Hardesty, Cleveland Browns – The rookie returned to practice Wednesday after recovering from a knee injury. He won't play this week but could see action in the preseason finale.

RB Brandon Jacobs, New York Giants – Jacobs returned to practice earlier this week after dealing with a neck injury. He will try to overtake Ahmad Bradshaw for the starting role at running back with a strong showing in the next preseason game.

RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars – “MJD” has missed three straight days with an undisclosed injury, and could be held out of the next preseason game. The Jaguars did not make any indication that the stud rusher may not be ready for Week 1.

RB Deji Karim, Jacksonville Jaguars – The rookie will miss the rest of the preseason after having surgery on his left thumb Tuesday. That makes Rashad Jennings the handcuff for stud Maurice Jones-Drew.

RB Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo Bills – Lynch is still unable to practice in camp due to his ailing ankle. Rookie C.J. Spiller continues to benefit with the bulk of first-team reps at running back.

RB Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers – The rookie underwent an operation Tuesday to “cauterize” his nose in a bid to prevent recurring nose bleeds.

RB Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders - McFadden looks to be fine after dealing with a hamstring injury, as he impressed teammates with his burst in practice Tuesday. He will see action in the next preseason game, and it looks like he will be ready for Week 1.

RB Quinn Porter, Green Bay Packers – Porter went down with a sprained knee in Thursday's preseason game. He was battling Kregg Lumpkin for the No. 3 role at running back.

RB Bernard Scott, Cincinnati Bengals – Scott returned to practice Wednesday after injuring his shoulder in the second preseason game. The second-year pro is very talented, and is an essential handcuff for Cedric Benson.

RB Kevin Smith, Detroit Lions – Smith stated that his surgically-repaired knee is near 100 percent. He added that he wakes up some days with some doubt that he will be able to get through the day though. Rookie Jahvid Best is the preferred fantasy back in Detroit.

RB James Starks, Green Bay Packers – The rookie continues to recover from a hamstring injury, and is likely to start the season on the PUP list. He has been unable to compete with Brandon Jackson for the No. 2 role at running back.

RB Derrick Ward, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Ward has been given the green light to play in the next preseason game after recovering from a head injury. Kareem Huggins has passed him on the depth chart, and Ward needs a strong showing to make the team.

RB LenDale White, Denver Broncos – White returned to practice Wednesday after being down with an ankle injury. Either way, White will not see action in the first four weeks due to a suspension.

WR Donnie Avery, St. Louis Rams – There is fear that Avery sustained a serious knee injury during Thursday's preseason game versus New England. Cross him off fantasy draft boards until the Rams update his status.

WR Ramses Barden, New York Giants – Barden will not need to undergo surgery for the stress fracture in his lower back.

WR Earl Bennett, Chicago Bears – Bennett, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, hopes to get in some practice snaps by the end of the week.

WR Antonio Bryant, Cincinnati Bengals – Bryant still isn't practicing due to his ailing knee. There is belief that the offseason acquisition could be released with an injury settlement if he doesn't return soon.

WR Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys – The rookie has resumed cutting and running off to the side in camp with the Cowboys. He has made good strides in his recovery from an ankle injury, but is disappointed that Dallas is yet to give him the green light to participate in the preseason. He is expected to be 100 percent for Week 1 though.

WR Michael Crabtree, San Francisco 49ers – Crabtree resumed fully practicing Tuesday for the first time since August 11. He was dealing with a strained neck that put him down for longer than expected. He will play in Saturday's preseason game.

WR Early Doucet, Arizona Cardinals – Doucet is expected to miss the next preseason game while still recovering from an abdominal injury. He has missed more than three full weeks of practice.

WR Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals – “Fitz” is dealing with a sprained MCL, but is fully expected to be ready to roll for Week 1 at St. Louis.

WR Justin Gage, Tennessee Titans – Gage returned to practice Wednesday after missing over a week with a thumb injury.

WR Pierre Garcon, Indianapolis Colts – Garcon is expected to be fine while dealing with an undisclosed injury.

WR James Hardy, Buffalo Bills – Hardy practiced significantly Wednesday for the first time since August 10 due to his foot injury. He has slipped down Buffalo's depth chart while on the shelf, and needs to make some noise in the closing preseason games to make the team.

WR Percy Harvin, Minnesota Vikings – Harvin has been cleared to return to practice Wednesday after being shelved by more migraine headaches. He had a scary collapse in camp too, and the Vikings will be very cautious with the second-year receiver.

WR Jason Hill, San Francisco 49ers – Hill is sidelined by a groin injury, and he recently suffered a setback. He needs to return soon before dropping off the 49ers' roster.

WR DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles – Jackson returned to practice Wednesday after hurting his hamstring Tuesday. He looks to be OK, as he caught a 50-yard pass.

WR Malcolm Kelly, Washington Redskins – Kelly will not play in Friday's preseason game due to a hamstring injury. He is now able to run routes after being down for almost four weeks with the ailment.

WR Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia Eagles – Maclin is sore while dealing with a shoulder contusion, but the promising second-year receiver expects to play in Friday's game versus Kansas City.

WR Mohamed Massaquoi, Cleveland Browns – Massaquoi returned to practice Tuesday after missing the second week of the preseason with a hamstring injury.

WR Sinorice Moss, New York Giants – Moss is dealing with a groin injury, and recently suffered a setback. His absence could improve Victor Cruz's odds of making the Giants' final roster.

WR Sidney Rice, Minnesota Vikings – It has been reported that Rice will be on crutches for eight weeks following hip surgery. The star receiver won't be returning to the gridiron until midseason, and may need a few weeks after that to get his groove back.

WR Andre Roberts, Arizona Cardinals – Roberts is expected to miss about a week of practice due to a sprained shoulder suffered Monday night. He is projected to be Arizona's punt returner if healthy.

WR Chaz Schilens, Oakland Raiders – The injury-prone receiver will be on the shelf indefinitely after having his bothersome knee scoped Tuesday. There is doubt he will be ready to play in Week 1.

WR Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers – The speed demon participated in his first padded practice earlier in the week. He expects to be ready to go for Week 1 after recovering from a fractured arm.

WR Brandon Stokley, Denver Broncos – The veteran receiver will miss the remainder of the preseason with a groin injury.

WR Maurice Stovall, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Stovall is expected to miss his third straight preseason game due to a nagging ankle injury. He has been unable to compete for the starting “Z” spot at receiver while out of service.

WR Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos – The rookie does not have a stress fracture in his foot, and head coach Josh McDaniels does not believe Thomas will be out for very long. There remains no real timetable for his return though.

WR Nate Washington, Tennessee Titans – Washington is still being bothered by nagging pain in his left wrist. He is not being limited though, as he led the Titans with 44 yards on three catches in Monday's preseason game versus the Cardinals.

TE Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts – Clark may be done for the remainder of the preseason due to his leg injury, but the stud tight end fully expects to be ready to go for Week 1 at Houston.

TE Owen Daniels, Houston Texans – It has been revealed that Daniels had a setback in his recovery from a torn ACL when he suffered a stress fracture on his kneecap in May. He did get the green light to return to full-padded practices this week by Dr. James Andrews though, and has good odds of taking the field in Week 1.

TE Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers – Davis is likely done for the preseason, but the 49ers are not believed to be concerned with the stud tight end's knee injury. In other words, Davis is likely to be ready to roll for Week 1.

TE Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints – The rookie is being sidelined by a high-ankle sprain. He has nice potential in the Saints' high octane passing offense, but does not look to make a fantasy impact early in the season.

TE Aaron Hernandez, New England Patriots – Hernandez did not play in Thursday's preseason game due to an undisclosed injury. Fellow rookie tight end Rob Gronkowski performed well in his absence, hauling in three receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns.

TE Cornelius Ingram, Philadelphia Eagles – Ingram is said to have high odds of landing on injured reserve due to his knee and calf injuries. He would have been a non-factor if healthy while working behind Brent Celek.

TE Darcy Johnson, St. Louis Rams – Johnson suffered a left ankle injury in Thursday's preseason game, and cannot afford to miss time while already having poor odds of making the final roster.

TE Zach Miller, Jacksonville Jaguars – Miller returned to practice. He missed the start of camp with a foot injury, saw action in the first preseason game, then went down again.

PK Olindo Mare, Seattle Seahawks – Mare has been dealing with a sore calf, but the ailment is not expected to force him to miss Week 1 as of now.

OT Jared Gaither, Baltimore Ravens – Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh is hopeful that Gaither will be ready to play in Week 1. He is recovering from a tear in his back.

DE Jared DeVries, Detroit Lions – DeVries was sent to a specialist in Atlanta for a second opinion on his injured knee. The injury has bothered him throughout camp, and the Lions placed him on injured reserve after his visit.

DE Aaron Kampman, Jacksonville Jaguars – Kampman made his Jacksonville debut in Week 2 of the preseason, but admitted that he still doesn't feel close to 100 percent while coming off reconstructive knee surgery. The former stud pass rusher looks to be a high risk/high reward prospect for IDP leagues.

DE Derrick Morgan, Tennessee Titans – The ultra-talented rookie out of Georgia Tech has finally advanced to practicing in individual drills after a lengthy bout with a calf injury. He may not get cleared for the next preseason game, but it appears likely Morgan will be ready to participate in Week 1.

DE Antwan Odom, Cincinnati Bengals – Odom aggravated an old meniscus injury, but was able to return to practice Wednesday. He is also coming off surgery to repair a torn Achilles, and will be a risky IDP prospect with good upside after racking up eight sacks in just six games last season.

DE Nick Reed, Seattle Seahawks – Reed will be on the shelf for at least two weeks after undergoing a knee scope Tuesday. He has promising upside as a pass rusher, and could actually be a pleasant surprise this season if healthy.

DL Albert Haynesworth, Washington Redskins – The disgruntled Haynesworth is reportedly suffering from a condition called rhabdomyolysis, which causes dizziness, nausea, vomiting and muscle swelling, and can lead to kidney damage. He is a fantasy prospect that is best avoided to prevent any aggravation for IDP managers.

DL Shaun Rogers, Cleveland Browns – Cleveland head coach Eric Mangini noted that Rogers could start the season on the PUP list while still recovering from his broken leg. This is not good news for the Browns' already unstable 3-4 defense.

OLB Xavier Adibi, Houston Texans – Adibi has suffered a setback in his recovery from a groin injury. He has been out since early August.

MLB Nick Barnett, Green Bay Packers – Barnett will not play in Saturday's preseason game due to lingering knee soreness. It is uncertain if he will need to have the knee scoped, or if he may not be ready for Week 1.

MLB Gary Brackett, Indianapolis Colts – The veteran middle linebacker injured his right hand during Thursday's preseason game. The severity of the injury is yet to be determined, and would be a very tough loss for the Colts' defense if he is forced to miss time.

MLB Brian Urlacher, Chicago Bears – Urlacher is not concerned with the calf injury that he suffered in Saturday's preseason game. He said it is merely a minor strain.

ILB Keith Brooking, Dallas Cowboys – Brooking is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason with a mild sprain of the AC joint in his right shoulder. That will give talented rookie Sean Lee a golden opportunity to showcase his skills to the team in the final two exhibition games.

OLB Ahmad Brooks, San Francisco 49ers – Brooks is dealing with a lacerated kidney, but head coach Mike Singletary does not believe Brooks will miss any regular season time. Brooks will work as a situation edge rusher if healthy.

OLB Danny Clark, Houston Texans – Clark sprained his knee in Saturday's preseason game against New Orleans. The Texans need Clark to be healthy with Brian Cushing unavailable for the first four games while serving a suspension.

OLB Nick Roach, Chicago Bears – Roach underwent an arthroscopic debridement on his left knee Tuesday. Pisa Tinoisamoa has the edge for the starting spot at strong-side linebacker.

OLB Clay Matthews, Green Bay Packers – Matthews hopes to return for the preseason finale next week. This is good news as the second-year linebacker is recovering from a hamstring injury.

CB Cortland Finnegan, Tennessee Titans – Finnegan is dealing with a groin injury, but the star cornerback guarantees he will be ready for Week 1.

CB Cedric Griffin, Minnesota Vikings – Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier stated that Griffin isn't anywhere close to coming off the PUP list while still rehabbing from major knee surgery. Chris Cook will start Minnesota's next game at right cornerback.

CB Al Harris, Green Bay Packers – Harris, who is rehabbing from reconstructive surgery on his left knee, was unable to pass a physical Monday. He will take another physical next week, but it does not look like he will be ready to play in Week 1.

CB Jacob Lacey, Indianapolis Colts – Lacey sustained a concussion in Thursday's preseason game.

CB Keenan Lewis, Pittsburgh Steelers – Lewis suffered a concussion in Saturday's preseason game versus the Giants. He was competing with Bryant McFadden for a starting spot at cornerback before getting hurt.

CB Jerraud Powers, Indianapolis Colts – Powers could miss the final two preseason games while coming off surgery on his left foot. He said his foot is physically fine, and it is just too sore to play on right now.

CB Aaron Ross, New York Giants – Ross will be sporting a walking boot for 10 days due to a partially-torn plantar fascia in his foot.

CB Lardarius Webb, Baltimore Ravens – Webb has been activated from the training camp PUP list after passing his conditioning test. The Ravens feel that he could develop into their best cornerback.

SS C.C. Brown, Detroit Lions – Brown is dealing with a forearm injury. The severity or a timetable for his return is yet to be revealed.

FS Jairus Byrd, Buffalo Bills – The Bills are hopeful that Byrd could be ready for Week 1. He is recovering from groin surgery.

FS Louis Delmas, Detroit Lions – Delmas is expected to make his preseason debut Saturday versus Cleveland. This is good news as the standout free safety was shelved by a groin injury in camp.

FS Kareem Moore, Washington Redskins – Moore could be shelved for 4-6 weeks after sustaining a sprained right MCL in Saturday's preseason game. Either Reed Doughty or Chris Horton will fill in at free safety in Moore's absence.

SS Troy Polamalu, Pittsburgh Steelers – Polamalu admitted that he has been thinking about his bothersome left knee during training camp. He has played in each of the first two preseason games, but will remain a risky prospect for IDP leagues.

FS Ed Reed, Baltimore Ravens – Reed has been pleased with his recovery from hip surgery so far, but it remains uncertain when the Pro Bowl free safety may return to action.

SS Gerald Sensabaugh, Dallas Cowboys – Sensabaugh will miss 3-4 weeks of action with a subluxation in his left shoulder. Either Barry Church or Pat Watkins would replace Sensabaugh at strong safety if not ready for Week 1.

FS Darren Sharper, New Orleans Saints – There is growing belief that Sharper could start the season on PUP list while still rehabbing from microfracture knee surgery. Malcolm Jenkins would be the top candidate to replace him at free safety if needed.

S Major Wright, Chicago Bears – The rookie has resumed practicing following finger surgery, but is not yet taking part in contact drills.
