Victor Cruz and Ryan Torain are players rising quickly up the depth charts and should be your top waiver-wire additions for week five.
Pickups of the Week
Victor Cruz, WR, Giants (owned in 19.1 percent of leagues)
Week 3 stats: 3 rec, 110 yards, 2 TDs, 5 Targets
Week 4 stats: 6 rec, 98 yards, 9 Targets
Cruz was targeted nine times and frustrated every single Mario Manningham owner who thought a game against Arizona was what would bring him back to fantasy relevance. Nope! Cruz looks like he is supplanting Manningham, who had five targets on the day, but only caught one of them.
Ryan Torain, RB, Redskins (owned in 57.7 percent of leagues)
Week 4 stats: 19 carries, 135 yards, 1 TD
Classic Mike Shanahan. Classic. Will Torain is get the majority of carries going forward? Only Shanny really knows. We know that Torain held up well in the lead back role in 2010, and that Shanahan really like him. However, it is quite possible that Hightower resumes his role as the lead back next week, because that's just how Shanahan rolls.
Ben Watson, TE, Browns (owned in 8.8 percent of leagues)
Week 1 stats: 3 rec, 45 yards, 7 Targets, 1 TD
Week 2 stats: 2 rec, 16 yards, 4 Targets
Week 3 stats: 5 rec, 64 yards, 10 Targets
Week 4 stats: 6 rec, 48 yards, 9 Targets, 1 TD
Watson is Colt McCoy's favorite receiver and leads the team in targets through four weeks. Considering how much the Browns throw, Watson is at a minimum, a nice bye week fill in.
Michael Crabtree, WR, 49ers (owned in 42.1 percent of leagues)
Week 3 stats: 3 rec, 24 yards, 6 Targets
Week 4 stats: 5 rec, 68 yards, 9 Targets
While his day was not impressive by any means, Crabtree was the 49ers leading receiver in both yards and targets. It seems his injuries are behind him and he is becoming an integral part of the offense. You know how talented Crabtree is, so don't wait until he breaks out for a big game. It's only a matter of time.
Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Titans (owned in 27.8 percent of leagues)
Week 1 stats: 21 for 34, 263 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT
Week 2 stats: 30 for 42, 358 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Week 3 stats: 27 for 36, 311 yards, 2 TDs
Week 4 stats: 10 for 20, 220 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT
Hasselbeck has quietly been a solid QB play through the first 4 games of the season. In ESPN standard scoring leagues, he is averaging 17 points per game, but more importantly he has produced in every single week. He is an excellent bye-week fill in, but a tougher schedule looms, with Pittsburgh in week five and Houston in week seven.
Stevan Ridley, RB, Patriots (owned in 3.6 percent of leagues)
Week 2 stats: 2 carries, 9 yards
Week 3 stats: 6 carries, 42 yards
Week 4 stats: 10 carries, 97 yards, 1 TD
That is now two straight weeks that Ridley has led the Patriots in rushing yards. While BenJarvus Green-Ellis led the team with 16 carries, Ridley is clearly the better back and his workload has increased in three consecutive weeks. However, the Patriots love to play hot potato with their running backs, so Ridley's production will likely be inconsistent going forward. The Patriots face two tough run defenses against the Jets and the Cowboys in the next two weeks. Stash him if you can, but be wary of starting him.
Tennessee D/ST (owned in 22.2 percent of leagues)
The Titans have been a nice surprise and are a legit top-10 defense. Next week they face the Steelers, who are incapable of protecting Ben Roethlisberger. Tasty, tasty, tasty.
Dan Bailey, K, Cowboys (14.1 percent)
In the 12 games since Jason Garrett took over at head coach, the Cowboys Kicker has averaged around 10 points per game, depending on your scoring system. That's more than any other team in the league. Dan Bailey is the kicker for Dallas. You do the math.
How is He Still Available?
Greg Olsen (owned in 84.5 percent of leagues)
Week 1 stats: 4 rec, 78 yards, 6 Targets
Week 2 stats: 1 rec, 34 yards, 4 Targets
Week 3 stats: 7 rec, 57 yards, 10 Targets, 1 TD
Week 4 stats: 5 rec, 50 yards, 7 Targets, 1 TD
Olsen continues to be one of Newton's favorite targets and that makes back-to-back touchdown weeks. He is a high target, high yardage receiver and will continue to have value going forward.
Aaron Hernandez (owned in 83.6 percent of leagues)
Week 1 stats: 7 rec, 103 yards, 10 Targets, 1 TD
Week 2 stats: 7 rec, 62 yards, 8 Targets, 1 TD
Not that Tom Brady has missed him much, but Hernandez is only a few weeks away from coming back and when he does return is automatically a top-5 tight end. He should have never been dropped in any league.
Lions D/ST (owned in 86.1 percent of leagues)
Detroit has performed as a top-5 fantasy defense and faces Chicago in week five. How many sacks will they have against Cutler next week, and how long will it be before Ndamukong Suh makes Jay Cutler cry?
Eric Decker (owned in 67.6 percent of leagues)
Week one stats: 3 rec, 53 yards, 5 targets
Week two stats: 5 rec, 113 yards, 9 targets 2 TDs
Week three stats: 7 rec, 48 yards, 12 targets
Week four stats: 5 rec, 56, 10 Targets, 2 TDs
Brandon Lloyd's return has not diminished Decker's role in the offense. In fact, it has even increased it a little. During the past two games Decker has received 22 targets. He is here to stay.
You're dead to me, kinda.
