Chicago Bears – 13, Detroit Lions – 24
It didn’t show in the box score, but
Jay Cutler (252 yards, 1 TD) had a gutty performance, keeping the Bears in the game until late in the fourth quarter, even though he was being hit more than a piñata at a 10 year old’s birthday party.
Matthew Stafford (220 total yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT) on the other hand wasn’t pressured very much at all, as he was able to calmly deliver the ball to his receivers and rarely looked like he was having a rough go of it.
Dane Sanzenbacher (6-64) was the most sure-handed receiver for Cutler, and he definitely is the choice when Cutler needs to move the chains. Once again, the trio of
Devin Hester (5-32),
Johnny Knox (2-17), and
Roy Williams (1-11) were thoroughly underwhelming; the Bears won’t be able to make many comebacks if Cutler doesn’t get some help from this crew.
This was another game where the Lions’ receiving corps was really
Calvin Johnson (5-130, 1 TD) and then everyone else, as Megatron’s seven catches were more than the other receivers combined.
Brandon Pettigrew (4-39, 1 TD) caught a couple of important first down receptions plus a touchdown, as he is usually the second read for Stafford.
Matt Forte (22 car., 116 yards; 4 rec., 35 yards) had another great yardage game, rolling up another 150 total yards, although his fantasy owners would have loved to see him get into the endzone.
Marion Barber (1 car., 3 yards) continues to be an afterthought, as he just got one carry.
Jahvid Best (12 car., 163 yards, 1 TD; 4 rec., 9 yards) got his first 100 yard rushing game of his career in style, racking up 163 yards on only 12 carries for a ridiculous 13.6 yards per carry. The Bears simply had no answers for Best, as the defenders looked like they were running in quicksand whenever they tried to chase Best down. Temper expectations next week though, as the 49ers will not be as easy to run as the Bears were on Monday night.
