Could better days be ahead for Roddy White and Marques Colston owners? The answer is yes, definitely yes. However, there are other intriguing players you should be paying attention to who are receiving/should see an increase in workload. Could any of them take the step into fantasy superstardom? Could better days be ahead for Roddy White and Marques Colston owners? The answer is yes, definitely yes. However, there are other intriguing players you should be paying attention to who are receiving/should see an increase in workload. Could any of them take the step into fantasy superstardom?

On The Rise

Jackie Battle, RB, Chiefs
Week 5 stats: 19 carries, 119 yards, 2 rec, 21 yards
Somewhere right now Todd Haley is weeping. Facing the prospects of a lost season and a loyal fanbase calling for his head, Haley's hands were tied going into Sunday's game against the Colts. Fearing a pink slip, Haley was forced to make the right decision, which meant stopping the play calling for his beloved 33 year-old Thomas Jones. With tears in his eyes, Haley said goodbye to Jones and called the number of the younger, quicker and more elusive Battle, who responded by averaging 6.3 yards per carry on 19 tackle-breaking man-carries. He knows the lackluster, ineffective Jones will never see double digit carries in a game the rest of his career because of the way Battle performed against the Colts. Battle should be the main back going forward, and even Todd Haley knows it.

Roddy White, WR, Falcons
Week 4 stats: 6 rec, 78 yards, 11 Targets
Week 5 stats: 6 rec, 50 yards, 9 Targets, 1 TD
White owners surely couldn't have imagined Julio Jones would take away that many touches away from White when they drafted him with their late 1st and early 2nd round picks. With Jones expected to miss at least one game, White should be a lock for a double digit targets against Carolina.

Marques Colston, WR, Saints
Week 4 stats: 1 rec, 8 yards, 3 Targets
Week 5 stats: 5 rec, 69 yards, 6 Targets
Colston is officially back and is his collarbone doesn't seem to be bothering him much. But with Darren Sproles and Jimmy Graham heavily involved in the passing attack, Colston's value is lower than when it was in the preseason. However, he has been a Drew Brees favorite for some time now and thus Graham's targets will likely come down because Colston is too talented to warrant only 6 targets per week. With Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Atlanta up next in the next five weeks, now is the time to buy low on Colston.

Joel Dreessen, TE, Texans
Week 5 stats: 5 rec, 112 yards, 9 Targets, 1 TD
Turns out Dreessen is the tight end not named Owen Daniels that Matt Schaub prefers, not James Casey. With Andre Johnson sidelined for at least one more week, and with Jacoby Jones doing his best Jacoby Jones impersonation, Dreessen should be a good bye-week replacement.

Naaman Roosevelt, WR, Bills
Week 5 stats: 5 rec, 41 yards, 7 Targets
Donald Jones injured himself during the Bills' Sunday game and Roosevelt was the guy who stepped up in his place. It's hard to tell whether Roosevelt's production was due to Stevie Johnson and David Nelson being shut down by the Eagles cornerbacks, or whether Ritzpatrick really likes looking Roosevelt's way. Regardless, Roosevelt led all Bills receivers in targets, and that fact shouldn't be glossed over.

Doug Baldwin, WR, Seahawks
Week 4 stats: 5 rec, 84 yards, 6 Targets
Week 5 stats: 8 rec, 136 yards, 9 Targets, 1 TD
Baldwin has accrued at least 80 yards in three out of five games this season and has been Seattle's most productive receiver so far. Fret not about Mike Williams returning to the lineup as Baldwin has out-targeted Williams in games they've played together. Interesting tidbit: After Charlie Whitehurst entered the game, six of his 19 passes were to Baldwin. Regardless of whether Tarvaris Jackson or Whitehurst is starting, Baldwin has #3 WR potential.

Jason Avant, WR, Eagles
Week 4 stats: 6 rec, 69 yards, 8 Targets
Week 5 stats: 9 rec, 139 yards, 10 Targets
He may have fumbled away the game against the Bills, but Avant still warrants a pickup in deeper leagues, especially PPR leagues. He has received at least seven targets in three of the Eagles five games this year. Yeah that's right, Avant is fantasy relevant. Kinda.

Dane Sanzenbacher, WR, Bears
Week 2 stats: 3 rec, 33 yards, 7 Targets, 1 TD
Week 3 stats: 5 rec, 27 yards, 7 Targets, 1 TD
Week 4 stats: 1 rec, 16 yards, 2 Targets
Week 5 stats: 6 rec, 64 yards, 10 Targets
If you were thinking that is a ridiculous amount of targets for an undrafted rookie white guy, you would be correct. If you were thinking this fact shows how truly pitiful Jay Cutler's receving corps is, you would be equally correct. Watch for Sanzenbacher to continue racking up the targets, especially with starting slot receiver Earl Bennett out with an injury for at least a couple more weeks.

Earnest Graham, RB, Buccaneers
Week 5 stats: 5 carries, 30 yards,
Graham hasn't been fantasy relevant in four years and has done nothing to persuade fantasy owners that should change any time soon. However, LeGarrette Blount is out for Sunday, and Raheem Morris said Graham will get the bulk of the carries, so you could do a lot worse than Graham at your flex spot.

Damian Williams, WR, Titans
Week 4 stats: 1 rec, 4 yards, 4 Targets, 1 TD
Week 5 stats: 6 rec, 66 yards, 11 Targets, 1 TD
Back to back touchdown weeks is not shabby at all. If Williams can keep up the high number of targets then he could be worth a pickup, but until he puts up back-to-back weeks with double digit yardage, there's probably better options available on most fantasy waiver wires.

Jason Hill, WR, Jaguars
Week 4 stats: 2 rec, 34 yards, 9 Targets
Week 5 stats: 5 rec, 126 yards, 8 Targets, 1 TD
The good news is Hill receives a bunch of targets from Blaine Gabbert. The bad news is that it's Blaine Gabbert. Hill's value is tied to how well Gabbert performs, which will fluctuate considerably week-to-week, but there is no doubt that Hill has value in deeper or PPR leagues.

Position Battles

Delone Carter, RB, Colts                                                     vs.                                              Donald Brown, RB, Colts
Week 5 stats: 12 carries, 22 yards, 1 TD, 2 rec, 12 yards                                                        8 carries, 38 yards
Joseph Addai's injury will keep him out at least a couple weeks, and odds are the Colts will want to see what their fourth round draft choice is made of. Donald Brown did run more effectively on Sunday, but his time to prove himself came and went awhile ago. Carter had 15 targets to Brown's 8 and is probably the best bet to get 15 carries against a decent Bengals run defense.

Early Doucet, WR, Cardinals                                                vs.                                              Andre Brown, WR, Cardinals
Week 5 stats: 8 rec, 92 yards, 16 Targets                                                                                  3 rec, 36 yards, 6 Targets
After matching each other target for target through the first three weeks, Doucet finally separated himself from Brown as the #2 WR in Arizona. Not that this matters much with Kevin Kolb doing his best Tarvaris Jackson impression on the field. However, given the amount of targets Doucet is now receiving, he becomes valuable in deeper leagues.

Victor Cruz, WR, Giants                                                        vs.                                             Mario Manningham, WR, Giants
Week 4 stats: 6 rec, 98 yards, 9 Targets                                                                                   1 rec, 10 yards, 5 Targets
Week 5 stats: 8 rec, 161 yards, 11 Targets, 1 TD                                                                      5 rec, 56 yards, 9 Targets
Cruz looks like the receiver that Manningham was supposed to be this year. Even with "Super" Mario back in the lineup, it is Cruz who is receiving the bulk of the targets out of the two. Manningham still has value, but it looks like he has been demoted Steve Smith's 2010 role which means it's hard to expect any kind of consistency out of him.

The Targets go In, the Targets Go Out, You Can't Explain That!

Stevan Ridley, RB, Patriots
Week 4 stats: 10 carries, 97 yards, 1 TD
Week 5 stats: 7 carries, 13 yards
Shame on all of you that started Ridley thinking he was "due" for more carries! When it comes to Patriots running backs, only Belicheck really knows who is going to receive the bulk of the carries, which is why guessing which Patriots back will receive the carries is like guessing which color jacket Craig Sager will wear next.

Antonio Brown, WR, Steelers
Week 3 stats: 4 rec, 75 yards, 8 Targets
Week 4 stats: 5 rec, 67 yards, 10 Targets
Week 5 stats: 2 rec, 23 yards, 4 Targets
Just when you thought that Wines Hard, I mean Hines Ward, was ready to rid us with his presence, he tallies up seven receptions for 54 yards and two touchdowns, frustrating Brown owners who are more than ready for the explosive receiver to find the endzone.
