Week 7 in the NFL left much to be desired from a Fantasy Football standpoint. From the quarterbacks to the defenses, there were very few bright spots and numerous poor performances by common fantasy studs. Arian Foster’s three touchdown, 234 total yard performance was just as surprising as Darren McFadden’s abysmal
seven total yards against Kansas City. Kudos to the fantasy owners that won against Foster and to those that won with McFadden.
This article will be split into two parts, one being players you should ‘Sell High,’ or players that have performed well but are due for a drop off. The other part, ‘Buy Low,’ will give you players that have under performed and may be available for pickup.
Sell High
Plaxico Burress, WR, New York Jets
Fresh off a three touchdown performance, Burress will be a top waiver-wire pickup in any league. And if he is available, you should pick him up as well. However, some owners (especially Jets fans) will want Burress and may overpay to get him. Add him for his upside, nothing more. If you own him, look to trade for a receiver like Brandon Lloyd, Brandon Marshall, DeSean Jackson or Santonio Holmes. Those may be stretches, but landing one of those players would be a boost for your team.
Demarco Murray, RB, Dallas Cowboys
Another player who impressed everyone in week 7, and another player you should look to add or trade. His value now is as high as it ever will be this season. Felix Jones is coming back from injury in a few weeks, and the Cowboys will not be playing the Rams every week. Add him if he is still available in your league, and trade him for a solid running back like Darren Sproles or Steven Jackson.
Buy Low
Santonio Holmes, Brandon Lloyd, Mike Williams, WRs
Holmes is the best receiver the Jets have on their roster. Plaxico Burress may receive the goal line targets, but Holmes should get the majority of the targets. Brandon Lloyd saw 12 targets in his debut for the Rams, and that should only improve with Sam Bradford coming back. Mike Williams is more of a stretch, he saw 11 targets but he has yet to score this year. Williams is more of a boom-bust, but he will receive his targets every week.
Chris Johnson, RB, Tennessee Titans
Johnson has been bad. Real bad. Owners that have him will be looking to trade him for almost anything. And you should exploit this feeling. If you have an extra skill player on your bench, trade for Johnson. He has a favorable schedule the rest of this year and, at the very least, he takes up a spot on your bench. Try and trade for him but DO NOT over extend. Trade a couple players from your bench; players that you would not play normally.
Philip Rivers,QB, San Diego Chargers
He was in this same article two weeks ago, and he hasn’t done much since. But I say keep faith in Rivers. Antonio Gates coming back gives him another weapon in the red zone, and he won’t be playing the New York Jets every week. Owners that have him should worry, but not to the point of trading him (unless the offer is too good to be true). If you have flexibility at the QB position, you should feel confident in trading for Rivers.
Once again, these are my personal insights, and by no means are fact. Good luck this week on your quest for a Fantasy Football championship!
