Both teams suffered disheartening losses in Week 9, with the Raiders being shocked at home to the Broncos and the Chargers losing a heartbreaker to the Packers.
If you’re a Raider fan you probably thought Carson Palmer stunk with 3 picks, but if you’re a Fantasy owner you thought his 332 yards and 3 TDs were fantastic. While it’s obviously too early in Palmer’s Oakland career to say he has a go-to guy, Jacoby Ford went a long way toward being that guy by catching 5 passes for 105 yards and a TD. His 5 receptions came on 6 targets, while Denarius Moore had 12 targets but could only manage 4 receptions. Michael Bush had a strong game in place of Darren McFadden, rushing for 96 yards and adding a TD reception. As of this writing it looked like Bush would once again carry the load, as McFadden was extremely iffy at best.
The same can be said for Philip Rivers as can be said for Palmer. He was great from a Fantasy standpoint, finally breaking out for 385 yards and 4 TDs, but his 4 interceptions were killer – with two being returned for TDs. Mike Tolbert was strong, with 83 yards and a TD on the ground and another 59 yards on 4 receptions. Vincent Jackson awarded the patience of his Fantasy owners in a big way, scoring 3 times and racking up 141 yards on 7 catches. With Malcom Floyd once again expected to be out this week, Jackson is primed to once again have a great game.
The Chargers have only allowed 191 YPG through the air but have given up 15 TDs. And while they’ve been gashed for 120 YPG on the ground they’ve only surrendered 4 rushing TDs. Figure that anomaly out. The Raiders have been very generous to opposing passing games, allowing 247 YPG and 14 TDs. But they’ve been even more generous on the ground, giving up 140 YPG and 9 TDs. Even if Ryan Mathews plays, Mike Tolbert still looks worth a start.
