The Jaguars throttled Tampa Bay while the Falcons staged a furious comeback to win in Carolina.
After falling behind 14-0, the Jaguars outscored the Buccaneers 41-0 the rest of the way thanks to two defense/special teams scores and a phenomenal day from Maurice Jones-Drew. Blaine Gabbert continued to be little more than a caretaker, as he threw for 217 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. He also managed to fumble twice, although he was fortunate in that Jacksonville recovered both of them. Maurice Jones-Drew remains the only Jaguar worth any starting consideration. Considering the utter lack of anything resembling talent around him, his 85-yard, 2-TD day rushing, combined with his 6 catches for 51 yards and another 2 TDs, is that much more amazing. You’ll run MJD, of course, but going into last week’s game the Jaguar offense had not scored 20 points in its last seven. Look for Jacksonville to revert to form against the Falcons.
Matt Ryan continues to be the unsung Fantasy hero of the second half of the season. After going for 320 yards and 4 TDs against Carolina, Ryan has had either a multi-TD or 300-yard game in five of six games since Week 9. The Jaguars have been pretty stout defensively, allowing fewer than 20 points in five of the last eight games. You can’t sit Roddy White or Julio Jones, and probably not Tony Gonzalez either, but the Jags have allowed an average of only 191 yards per game. However, they haven’t exactly faced a Murderer’s Row of quarterbacks (Flacco, Yates (twice), Painter/Orlovsky, McCoy, Freeman) in the last two weeks. The one top-level QB they’ve faced (from a Fantasy perspective) was Philip Rivers and he torched them for 294 yards and 3 TDs. On the ground, though, they’ve allowed 112 YPG and 12 TDs on the season.
GOOD STARTS: All Falcons with any Fantasy relevancy, RB Maurice Jones-Drew
MIDDLE OF THE ROAD STARTS: None
BAD STARTS: Any Jaguar not named Maurice Jones-Drew
