There are plenty of Running Backs that rushed for over 1,000 yards this year, but who are the guys that Fantasy Football Managers could rely on every single week. This excludes the injury prone that missed more than 4 games. So, an honorable mention goes to Matt Forte, Darren McFadden and Fred Jackson, maybe next year. Here is my top 10 list:
1 - LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles-
Rushing- 260 carries, 1274 yards and 17 TD’s / Receiving- 47 catches, 305 yards and 3 TD’s / 1 Fumble
LeSean was the lone shining star for many Eagles’ games this season. McCoy, a first round pick that simply did his job every single week. His 20 TDs (to date) was the best among Non-Quarterbacks.
2 - Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens-
Rushing- 244 carries, 1086 yards and 10 TD’s / Receiving- 71 catches, 648 yards and 2 TD’s / 2 Fumbles
As Baltimore’s workhorse, Rice thrived this season. Other than his lowsy game in Week 7 at Jacksonville, "Ray Ray" performed exceptionally well every week which is what a high pick is suppose to do.
3 - Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars-
Rushing- 294 carries, 1334 yards and 7 TD’s / Receiving- 36 catches, 349 yards and 3 TD’s / 1 Fumble
Jones-Drew is a great back, just simply in a bad situation. The Jag’s play from behind a lot… so, they throw the ball more a lot in the 2nd Half, but even that plays into MJD's production since he's not only the team's best rusher but also their most productive receiver.
4 - Arian Foster, Houston Texans-
Rushing- 255 carries, 1066 yards and 9 TD’s / Receiving- 50 catches, 601 yards and 2 TD’s / 3 Fumble
Foster should be higher but he did miss two and a half games this year. His production this season proved his dominant performance in 2010 was not a fluke.
5 - Darren Sproles, New Orleans Saints-
Rushing- 76 carries, 496 yards and 2 TD’s / Receiving- 79 catches, 659 yards and 5 TD’s / 0 Fumbles
Sproles played much better than he was expected to this year. This made him a steal in most fantasy leagues this season. His 79 receptions made him a monster in PPR formats.
6 - Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks-
Rushing- 245 carries, 1011 yards and 11 TD’s / Receiving- 24 catches, 183 yards and 1 TD / 2 Fumble
Ten straight games with at least one Touchdown and its clear why "Beast Mode" is one of this year's nicest surprises.
7 - Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers-
Rushing- 211 carries, 1033 yards and 6 TD’s / Receiving- 47 catches, 439 yards and 0 TD’s / 2 Fumbles
Split time with Mike Tolbert in the backfield but still managed to rack up more than 1,400 yards from scrimmage. Tolbert took about 5 Touchdowns from the 2nd year back, but that may change in 2012 since Tolbert is a Free Agent.
8 - Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons-
Rushing- 273 carries, 1129 yards and 9 TD’s / Receiving- 13 catches, 132 yards and 0 TD’s / 2 Fumbles
Mr. consistent fantasy top 10, Turner stayed unchanged: 1200 yards or so, 10 TD’s and not enough in the receiving department.
9 - Reggie Bush, Miami Dolphins-
Rushing- 194 carries, 973 yards and 6 TD’s / Receiving- 41 catches, 270 yards and 1 TD / 2 Fumbles
Not consistent early this year. But maybe he has found it in Miami afterall. Bush’s stats from week 8 to 15: 158 touches for 914 total yards and 6 TD’s…WOW! Something to think about for next year’s draft.
10 - Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans-
Rushing- 232 carries, 930 yards and 4 TD’s / Receiving- 53 catches, 369 yards and 0 TD’s / 1 Fumble
I know that he didn’t meet his huge expectations this year but he did have solid numbers the 2nd Half of the year.
*-all stats though week 15 12/21/11
