Vince Lombardi once said, “The only thing almost as good as winning the Super Bowl is winning your fantasy football league.  The Super Bowl is great.  It’s amazing.  Getting a fantasy league trophy on your mantel is a close second.”

Actually, Vince Lombardi never said that, but there’s a small percentage chance he might’ve if fantasy football existed when he was coaching.  (Cue some old man proclaiming that he invented fantasy football all the way back in the 1960s and starting to list obscure players that he had on his team.)

For less than ten percent of you who played fantasy football in 2011, the season was a success and ended with a fantasy championship.  To those of you, I say congratulations.  Enjoy a year of bragging rights and (most likely) a little extra cash in your pocket.  For everyone else, there’s always next year.

Here are your Week 16 fantasy football champs and chumps.

QB Champs

Aaron Rodgers: 283 pass yds, 5 pass TDs, 18 rush yds
Only 283 pass yards?  Come on, Rodgers, you can do better than that!  In all seriousness, no one goes out there and gets you five touchdowns to win your fantasy league like Aaron Rodgers, your 2011 Fantasy Football MVP (and soon to be NFL MVP.)

Drew Brees: 307 pass yds, 4 TDs, 2 INTs
The kind of guy you want leading your football team (whether it be your real team or fantasy team).

Cam Newton: 171 pass yds, 3 pass TDs, 65 rush yds, rush TD
When I looked into my fantasy football crystal ball at the start of this season, I saw Cam Newton breaking the record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.  So I sold my magic crystal ball.  How foolish of me.

Matthew Stafford: 373 pass yds, 3 pass TDs, 5 rush yds
Stafford solidified his status as a top five fantasy QB going into next season with a monster game against the Chargers.

Honorable Mention: Tom Brady

QB Chumps

Eli Manning: 225 pass yds, pass TD, INT, -1 rush yds
Take away a 99-yard touchdown pass and Eli’s game goes from mediocre to just plain bad.  In a week when most QBs you’d consider starting were as advertised, Little Manning was a disappointment.

Carson Palmer: 237 pass yds, pass TD, 2 INTs
Unfortunately, C-Palm didn’t help you win your league’s consolation bracket (because let’s face it, if you started him, you weren’t in the championship).

RB Champs

C.J. Spiller: 111 rush yds, rush TD, 27 rec yds
It’s starting to look like we’ll have a running back by committee situation in Buffalo next year.  Don’t forget that Spiller was a round one pick just one year ago; he could be a good mid-round sleeper next year.

DeAngelo Williams: 66 rush yds, 2 rush TDs, 18 rec yds AND Jonathan Stewart: 88 rush yds, 11 rec yds, rec TD
Starting a Panthers’ RB in your flex spot paid off this week.

RB Chumps

LeSean McCoy: 35 rush yds, 10 rec yds
Somewhere out there, a guy lost his fantasy championship with LeSean McCoy and Beanie Wells as his starting RBs to a team led by C.J. Spiller and DeAngelo Williams.  I am very sorry, person I don’t know.

Beanie Wells: 53 rush yds, 8 rec yds
At least he didn’t get hurt for a substantial portion of the season.

WR Champs

Reggie Wayne: 106 rec yds, rec TD
If Peyton Manning played this year, how many one hundred yard games would Reggie Wayne have had?

Victor Cruz: 164 rec yds, rec TD
You don’t need to escape Revis Island when you’re being covered by Antonio Cromartie.

Brandon Marshall: 156 rec yds, rec TD
I don’t think most people realize that Marshall is actually in the top ten in the league in receiving yards.

Honorable Mentions: Percy Harvin, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson

WR Chumps

A.J. Green: 25 rec yds, 25 rush yds
In a year when A.J. Green was clearly the Bengals’ top receiver, Jerome Simpson had the team’s (and the entire NFL’s) most memorable touchdown.  He also scored more fantasy points than Green in Week 16.

Hakeem Nicks: 20 rec yds
The Giants beat the Jets, but Nicks was contained by Revis and Co.

TE Champs

Jared Cook: 169 rec yds, rec TD
Too bad you didn’t start this guy on your fantasy football team.

Brandon Pettigrew: 80 rec yds, rec TD
It’s been boom or bust this year for Pettigrew.  Week 16: Boom.

TE Chump

Jason Witten: 24 rec yds
A lackluster performance in a meaningless game.
