Arizona: The Cardinals hit rock bottom in Week 8, getting shellacked by the 49ers right in their own back yard no less.
Of course the road doesn’t get any easier, as they pay a visit to Lambeau Field and the suddenly clicking Packers. The Packers are playing better defense than they did last season, ranking 13th overall in yards allowed per game and are second with a total of 28 sacks.
This doesn’t bode well for a maligned Cardinals' offensive line which hasn’t been able to protect Kevin Kolb or current starter John Skelton. With very little time to throw, Skelton nor any receiver not named Larry Fitzgerald are worth all that much; although Andre Roberts may be used as flex if you’re in a pinch.
What you don’t want to do is make use of LaRod Stephens-Howling or any other Cardinals runner. The Packers rank 12th against the rush, and play even better at home.
Good Start: WR Larry Fitzgerald
Middle of the Road: WR Andre Roberts, TE Rob Housler
Bad Start: QB John Skelton, RB LaRod Stephens-Howling
Green Bay: The Packers are once again back on track, although they did hit a bit of a rough patch last week against the Jaguars. This might have been a case of the Packers looking past the moribund Jags, but it may also have been the injuries at WR, with both Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson knocked out of the game.
It could also be Alex Green, who hasn’t been able to get better than 2.5 yards per carry, which is terrible in pretty much any comparison.
Still, the Packers win and lose on the arm of Aaron Rodgers, so look for the Packers to get back to more of the aerial game, even against a Cardinals' defense that ranks 4th against the pass.
It’s not like the Packers haven’t proven they can’t have that kind of success, as they shredded the perfectly solid Texans' defense a couple of weeks ago.
With Nelson’s hamstring still balky, this is another week where the passing game will likely be led by James Jones and Randall Cobb. Both are must plays even with the Cardinals being competent against the pass; however, Jermichael “dropsies” Finley is one you’ll want to steer clear of.
Good Start: QB Aaron Rodgers, WR Randall Cobb, WR James Jones
Middle of the Road: None
Bad Start: RB Alex Green, WR Donald Driver, TE Jermichael Finley
