Matt Fortewas a disappointment in 2009 while coming off a promising rookie campaign, which is a key reason why the Bears inked Chester Taylor to a four-year deal worth $12.7MM in March. The Bears also relieved Ron Turner of his job as their offensive coordinator, and made headlines when they replaced him with Mike Martz, who was billed as a guru during his time with the prolific Rams. Martz’s presence should have a positive impact on quarterback Jay Cutler, who held an unimpressive 76.8 efficiency rating during his first year with Chicago. He chucked an NFL worst 26 interceptions as well. The club added blocking tight end Brandon Manumaleuna in the off-season too, who should free up Greg Olsen in the passing game, and account for a few less sacks on Cutler. Martz has an exciting group of receivers at his disposal as well, with Johnny Knox, Earl Bennett, Devin Hester and Devin Aromashodu. Aromashodu made some noise late in the year when he hauled in seven balls for 150 yards and a touchdown in Week 16 versus rival Chicago -- but as of right now, Knox and Hester are the favorites to start. 2010 Fantasy Outlook: The Bears will likely employ a pass-heavy offense this season, going by Martz’s past M.O. That should in turn lead to more catches for their receiving corps, and our Fantasy Football Champs rankingscurrently have Knox listed the highest. Forte should also touch the ball plenty even with Taylor in the mix, as Forte hauled in 120 receptions in his first two seasons. Taylor is an essential handcuff to target as well, as he could make a strong impact if moved into the No. 1 role, namely by an injury to Forte. |
